Consuming seasonal food is the best way to ensure that our bodies regularly receive the components provided by products that are in the best conditions of freshness and suitability for the time of year, in a commitment to environmental care and sustainability.
The European Market Observatory for Fishery and Aquaculture Products (EUMOFA) has produced a report in which it clarifies that one of the major problems that generate the overexploitation of fishing grounds is the consumer’s tendency to want to eat the same food all year round.
Respecting reproductive cycles, especially the breeding season, is essential for the renewal and maintenance of species. Eating oval fish and shellfish (with roe) can be a juicy but unsustainable delicacy. If we eat a fish and its young, we are not only depleting the population, we are also eliminating the possibility of regeneration, and thus dooming the species to extinction.
Nowadays, there are calendars with the season of each fish, where it is made clear which species are not breeding month by month and are ready to be fished and consumed.

Consuming fresh fish responsibly, knowing the calendar with the species in season, caring about the fishing grounds where they have been caught and the method that has been used, are just a few small steps to consume with awareness and conscience. Not only will your economy benefit, but your choices will have a positive impact on the planet.
